Considering good food is essential in keeping you healthy, a Burger King was always an unusual choice for in-hospital food store. But at Southampton General Hospital, the grapes are fighting back the gherkins following the opening of a new organic farm shop.
The shop is the first of its kind in Europe and one of only a few farm shops in a hospital in the world. It will stock an amazing 400 different varieties of fruit and veg, according to local paper, the Daily Echo.
Greens and meat will come from Warborne Organic Farm in Boldre, near Lymington. Owner and farm manager George Heathcote said: "It's definitely a bold move but we have noticed the market becoming less and less niche."
"It's a logical step for us. We've got a great production base but we need another outlet and rather than go to the high street, why not put it in the heart of human health?"
Heathcote said that in the first two-and-a-half hours of business, they took nearly £1,000. Here's hoping the hospital will see sense and shut down the unhealthy competition.
