A bottle of wine might not be the most imaginative gift, but it's a safe Christmas pressie for that not-so-close-relative you still need to give something to.
There are also loads of great organic and Fairtrade wines out there that will make a good impression even if the recipient doesn't value the green and ethical credentials.
Fairtrade-wise, we recommend the winners of this year's Fairtrade Wine Awards including Co-op's Chilean Carmenère 2006 (£5), Equality by Las Lomas' Chilean Sauvignon Blanc 2007 (£7 at Threshers) and Origin Fairhills Shiraz-Tempranillo (£5 at Tesco).
If you're after organic or biodynamic wines, check out Organico's online shop, which stocks over 120 planet-friendly wines and sells pre-mixed boxes, too.
If you do plan on presenting quite a few people with wine and Fairtrade is more your bag than organic, try Traidcraft's mixed boxes (pictured) each containing 12 bottles of Fairtrade wines from South Africa, Chile or Argentina. Depending on the box you pick it will set you back between £56 and £62. It's slightly more expensive than 12 bottles of Blue Nun from the supermarket, but we know you'll make the right choice.
