This morning we braved central London's horrific traffic to get to The Ethical Press Day, which was showcasing the autumn/winter 2008 collections from the likes of Adili, Beyond Skin, Ingle & Rhode, Jo Wood Organics, Kuyichi, People Tree, Sika, Terra Plana and The Hemp Trading Company (THTC). And man was it worth it.
It's amazing to see how much has happened in the world of green and ethical fashion in just over a year. The collections have gone from looking good to looking 'I-want-that-and-that-and-that!' good. As high street retailers start to catch up with the demand from ethical consumers and organic and Fairtrade cotton becomes a little more mainstream, these pioneering ethical and sustainable fashion companies still really stand out -- both in terms of integrity and in pure show-off gorgeous design.
We've picked out a few pieces we think are going to take the autumn/winter season by storm.
The Adili 'female' mannequin in the main image is wearing a silk Edun dress, an Adili own label knitted hat and a coat from Wildlifeworks, which will be "the coat of the season" according to Adili's Simone Ruffin. The 'male' mannequin is wearing Kuyichi jeans and a Zque merino cardigan and t-shirt from a new Kiwi brand, Untouched World.
Divine sweetened up the morning by handing out tasters of its scrummy Fairtrade chocolates. We thoroughly enjoyed the idea that love for chocolate and love for fashion could go perfectly well together.
Most of the companies showcasing today will be present at the 'Fashion Made Fair' sample sale, which is on in London this weekend.
