Jewellery manufacturer 'made' is launching its new spring and summer collection, focusing on its traditional materials of brass and wood. The Zuri Range takes its cues from what the fashionistas claim will be this season's big styles -- stars and spots.
It includes a necklace (£20), bracelet (£15) and earrings (£10 and £8), with brass discs and wooden stars dyed in bright colours from bright blue through to rose or dark mahogany.
The company's jewellery is all Fairtrade in intent, although the organisation doesn't yet provide certification for fashion or arts companies. Nonetheless, made manufactures all its products in Africa and provides a fair wage to its workers, along with healthy working conditions.
"The cornerstone of our business is trade, not aid. After all you can't eat money or make bracelets from banknotes," says made.
The company trains local artisans and works to improve their working conditions by setting up small businesses and providing the people with tools and materials.
You can pick up made's pieces in TopShop, Sainsbury's, independent shops listed online or on made's website.
