Budding fashion designers are being offered the chance to design a range of eco-friendly clothing, and take it from the drawing board to the catwalk by exhibiting at the 2008 London Fashion Awards. The winning designs will also be put into production by one of the nine participating sustainable fashion companies.
The Make your Mark in Fashion contest, which is supported by the Ethical Fashion Forum, will see teams plan every part of a range, from clothing designs, to sustainable manufacturing techniques and even retail strategy.
Each company will choose its favourite plan, and this shortlist will be whittled down to three winning teams who get to see their designs on the catwalk and in shops.
"There has never been a more inspiring time to start a fashion business in the UK. The new generation holds the key to achieving positive change by creating products that are stunning in terms of design, and innovative in terms of sustainability," says Tamsin Lejeune of the Ethical Fashion Forum.
Teams must contain between three and six people, all aged between 14 and 30, and submissions must be received by 31 January 2008. Nine companies are taking part in the competition -- Ciel, Enamore, From Somewhere, Junky Styling, Juste, Liv, Makepiece, Terra Plana and the Hemp Trading Company.
