Sleepy Mary commented on a story: Green or not? Buying energy-efficient PCs
Getting rid of old PCs can actually be quite difficult. I sweated my last machine to the point where organisations like Computer Aid weren't willing to take it, and most of the organisations that recycle PCs are looking for them by the skipful, which is fine for businesses, but not so helpful for a solitary machine from a home user.
In the end I bought a replacement PC from Dell, partly because they were willing to take the old one away and recycle it free of charge. This was three years ago -- schemes like that are probably more common now. However I still think we have a way to go in making it easy to dispose of defunct technology responsibly.

It sounds as if Fiji Water is trying to reduce its impact on the environment, which is a good thing -- but buying something I don't need just doesn't make environmental sense. We can argue all day about the greenness of the company, but I don't see how I can buy bottled water from the other side of the world and still call myself a green consumer.
So I commend the company for trying, but I ain't sold on the product.

How much? I mean, seriously, you'd have to save a lot of electricity to justify the cost... plus there's the 5W its consuming to account for.
Are the wind turbines in the background meant to be ironic?

How can they be recycling the Capital of Culture bags already? It has only just started!

I'm not sure these seatbelts are really recycled. Sounds like they've just been rejected -- hopefully not for their strength!

Seems to me that this is not really about divorce rates, but about the increase in single-person households. You could say the same about people marrying later or choosing to live alone. Or maintaining more than one household despite being married.
Kinda mean to single out divorced people (lame pun not intended).

You can also make coffee by putting the ground-up beans in a filter in one of those filter-holder thingies and pouring hot water over it.
If you're desperate, you can also mix the water with the coffee grounds. Gets a bit chewy though.

I'm with Lozza... I own enough cups and glasses for as many people as will comfortably fit in my house. If I were going to have a party for 200 people I barely know (who really has 200 friends?), I'd have to hire a venue, and probably a caterer, and buy a truckload of booze, so I'd do the decent thing and hire 200 glasses as well... and I don't think hiring the glasses would be the biggest item on the bill.
I'm against plastic cups, but there are other solutions.
