If you want free stuff, these are the rules.
The following rules are applicable to all competitions promoted or conducted by CNET Networks UK Limited, its subsidiaries or related companies on the website at www.smartplanet.com (“Website”). These rules will be deemed incorporated in each such competition except to the extent that any instruction in an individual competition provides otherwise. Such instructions form part of these rules.
Unless otherwise specified, CNET Networks UK Limited (whose principal place of business is at 5-11 Lavington Street, London, SE1 0NZ) is the promoter of all competitions on the Website. In these Rules, the promoter is referred to as “CNET”.
In the event of any conflict between these rules and any instruction in an individual competition, the instructions in the individual competition will prevail.
These rules, which may be amended from time to time, and any such instructions shall be binding on all entrants. The rules are always available on the Website.
- All competitions are open to persons resident in the UK who are aged 18 or over at the specified closing time (unless any other age restriction is specified).
- Competitions may run concurrently across other websites within the CNET group which include: www.cnet.co.uk, www.gamespot.co.uk, www.atlarge.com, www.silicon.com and www.zdnet.co.uk.
- Employees of CNET and the promoter, and their subsidiaries or related companies, and any company involved in the competition, together with their agents and members of their families, are not eligible to participate.
- Subject to any different instructions specified in any individual competition:
- Use of a false name or address will disqualify entrants from receiving any prize. Entrants who are rude, abusive or deemed otherwise unsuitable by CNET will be excluded from the competition.
- In the event of the closing time being extended, which the Judges may do in their absolute discretion, there will be an announcement of any such extension at the first reasonable opportunity.
- Subject to Rule 8:
- The decision of the Judges shall be final and unchallengeable and, in their absolute discretion, they may declare void any entry, or the competition itself, should they consider that there are no entries reaching a required standard, whereupon they can award prizes or not, as they think fit. The Judges may also decide, in their absolute discretion, to change the rules of a competition while it is running if it appears to them that it would be equitable or desirable to do so. No correspondence will be entered into.
- Winners will be formally notified within 21 days of the closing time. The names of any winners can be obtained for up to one month after the relevant closing time by sending a stamped addressed envelope to CNET at Smartplanet.com Competitions, CNET Networks UK, 5-11 Lavington Street, London SE1 0NZ specifying the name of the competition in question.
- If an entrant is notified as a winner and does not acknowledge such notification within 14 days from the date of notification, then CNET shall be entitled to withdraw that entrant’s right to the prize and CNET shall have the right to select an alternative winner in accordance with Rule 7.
- All prizes are subject to the terms and conditions of the relevant manufacturer or supplier of those prizes.
- CNET and its subsidiaries and related companies reserve the right to publish the names of the winners and runners-up, and any entries. A condition of entry is that entrants are deemed to have assigned the copyright of their entries to CNET. All entries, however submitted, shall become the property of CNET. Entrants agree that CNET and its subsidiaries and related companies will have the right, with no further permission or payment, to publish all or part of any entry or use it in any way they think fit.
- Entrants may be required to sign a promotional release granting CNET and its subsidiaries and related companies the right to use their name and likeness for advertising and publicity purposes without additional compensation. Entry into a competition constitutes the entrant’s agreement to sign such releases. Non-compliance will result in disqualification of the entrant.
- The winner(s) agree that CNET and its subsidiaries, related companies and employees, and any other sponsors, shall (to the maximum extent permitted by law) have no liability in connection with acceptance or use of any of the prizes awarded.
- Unless otherwise stated in the rules of a particular competition, there will be no cash or other alternative to the prize offered and prizes are not transferable. However, should the advertised prize become unavailable CNET reserves the right, at its absolute discretion, to offer an alternative prize of equal or greater value.
- CNET and its subsidiaries and related companies will not be liable for any circumstances beyond its reasonable control that prevent a prize being taken up by a winner.
- Prizes of tickets to cancelled or curtailed events may not be valid for re-scheduled dates.
- Prizes do not include provision for travel, accommodation, insurance or any other expenses unless otherwise specified. The winner is responsible for the payment of any applicable taxes.
- DATA PROTECTION. CNET will hold an entrant’s personal data for a reasonable period of time to enable it to send that entrant any prize that they have won and to verify that these rules have been complied with, and for accounting purposes. This data may be passed to third parties to enable such third parties to fulfil any necessary requirements relating to the award of a prize. Any other use of personal data will be in accordance with, and subject to, the Website’s Privacy Policy.
- By entering the competition entrants are agreeing to be bound by these rules, any conditions set out in the competition instructions, and CNET’s decisions relating to the competition. CNET reserves the right to disqualify an entry if it has reasonable grounds to believe that an entrant has breached any of the competition’s rules or conditions.
- These rules are supplemental to the Website’s Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy.
- All competitions are governed by English law.
