Yes, we did check it out years ago. The results were that it is a good idea, but that it isn't feasible yet. it is within the known strength of materials, but is too hard for us at the level of technology available then. Our ability is getting closer to what it would take, but it's still a project for the future. First go around it was considered not doable for a Century. The, not for a half century. Now, it seems to be something to consider seriously in around 20 years.
I think that the time to seriously consider doing it will be in 10 to 15 years. Meanwhile, the research should consider.
