It is difficult to believe that the ambient air in rural areas is toxic in India as is being made out. In the villages, the problem could be water but not air. Though noise levels, as part of air pollution is increasing, but there are rules to regulate. In recent times, there has been awakening about the effects of chemical contamination and there are steps that have been taken. The study is useful for drawing attention to the issues, but CO2 emissions that indicate development should not be bracketed with the environment performance index in the context of pollution.
