Death to Pre-Fab...Long live "Precision-Built"
Modular, precision-built (my term for "prefabricated", which for everyone in the world except for the builders, apparently, (and maybe their friends and relatives) means cheap, shoddy low-class construction) housing could/should the future of residential low/mid-rise construction, if only people in the industry could see that they're trying to market on an irredeemable brand: "prefabricated". Rather than resuscitate a failed brand, why not launch a new one without baggage.
Precision-built housing has so many benefits: lower cost, faster construction, less waste, more control, better quality, greener...the list goes on, the industry should ditch the 20th century term and use a modern one, that truly captures the benefits of the technology.
It would also be great if SOMEone could come up with a modular, precision-built style that wasn't Modern.
