...because local jurisdictions make too much money from franchise fees and other taxes. If you look at a land-line bill, you'll see that over 1/3rd of it is taxes and fees. How much uproar would there be if they allowed the telcos to lower the price of the service, only to have consumers discover that over half of that bill was going to taxes?
