I recall that about 30 years ago, CNG conversion units were sold and installed in Canada and used on standard taxicabs (and other vehicles).
CNG refueling stations were available in several areas of Montreal and Toronto (and possibly other cities).
I recall having a ride in one of the CNG fuelled taxis and did not notice any apparent difference in performance of the vehicle.
The driver indicated that he had no issues with it.
I can't recall why the usage stopped, but one of many scenarios come to mind.
