Infrastructure/Energy Nightmare
Moles, not humans like to live underground!!! Can you imagine the energy necessary to provide fresh air? Your survival would be based on the ability to power fans to provide air. Furtheremore, have you ever tried to keep a basement dry that was surrounded by ground water? Infrastructure nightmare!!! The solution is up not down. This design is destine for the vault.

Water?
Ground water probably won't be much of a problem, they don't have enough water as it is. Did you see the designs for building in open pit mines?

Seven Billion reasons and counting!
Zero Population Growth and in some areas, Negative Population Growthwould be the real answer to the critics of efforts to accomodate unsustainable populations worldwide.

Um...yeah...
Anybody but me look at this thing and not think it's just a big funnel?
And isn't Mexico City in an unstable earthquake zone?
Yeah...I want to live 70 stories underground...at least when there is a natural disaster, you don't have to waste any time burying your dead...You've already built them a mausoleum!

I would love to see the test results after they test it against an 8.1 earthquake like what hit the city in 1985. The quake epicenter was over 350 km away, but the geology of Mexico City sitting in a dry lakebed surrounded by mountains is best described as sitting on a big bowl of jelly.
The distant earthquakes amounted to hitting the outside of the bowl and shaking the jelly. I wonder what happens when you build into the jelly?
