The One Euro is one cool looking tool. Lets look at the numbers a bit:The Leaf battery pack holds 24,000 watts. FYI, 24,000 Watt-Hr is 2/3 a gallon of gas. The Leaf goes 99 miles for 2/3 x $4 = $2.68.However, for that $2.68, the Leaf goes 99 miles. Leaf Efficiency: 24,000 Watt-Hr / 99 miles = 242 Watt-Hr per mile. The Leaf needs 242 Watt-Hr to go one mile. At $1.32/$4 The One Euro uses about 1/3 gallon of gas to go 62 miles.1/3 gallon of gas is 11,880 Watt-Hr One Euro Efficiency: 11,880 Watt-Hr / 62 miles = 162 Watts per mile. 242/162 = 1.5So, the One Euro is actually about 1.5 times more efficient than the Leaf.
http://www.smartplanet.com/forum/discussions/1-7503-52756

We've got about 5,500 miles on our Leaf now. We've been seeing a cost of 2.2 cents a mile, the equivalent of 200 miles to a gallon, roughly double EPA's estimate and that's on 100% renewable offset electricity. The EPA rating assumes the driver does not develop skills in EV driving, skills that the cars energy feedback system is designed to help the driver hone. We drive at comfortable speeds, often with 4 passengers and tend to get 4.6 MkWh, substantially better than the EPA's 2.9 MkWh. Given that the Leaf has double the seating capacity, per capita it already has the potential to beat GM's 2 seater concept car. If the price was right though, GM could be on to something for the single or double occupancy commuter! Cool concept, bad comparison!

Given that it's engineered to be adequately safe I can see something like this being a big hit.Great for a family's 'second car', the one that just does commuting and odd errand duty. Great for young drivers with shallow pockets. Small to park. Might benefit by an expandable rear end so that a bunch of groceries/whatever could be hauled home. Being light weight means much smaller battery packs thus cutting significantly on price. Battery pack down low would give it a lot of stability. Plenty of zip. Looks like a lot more fun than a Smart. No special low speed version needed. Just build in tamper-proof limits that can be set by the purchaser/parent. Use an eyeball reader and the car can be limited by who is at the wheel.
