The Leaf Already Has This Car Beat!
We've got about 5,500 miles on our Leaf now. We've been seeing a cost of 2.2 cents a mile, the equivalent of 200 miles to a gallon, roughly double EPA's estimate and that's on 100% renewable offset electricity. The EPA rating assumes the driver does not develop skills in EV driving, skills that the cars energy feedback system is designed to help the driver hone. We drive at comfortable speeds, often with 4 passengers and tend to get 4.6 MkWh, substantially better than the EPA's 2.9 MkWh. Given that the Leaf has double the seating capacity, per capita it already has the potential to beat GM's 2 seater concept car. If the price was right though, GM could be on to something for the single or double occupancy commuter! Cool concept, bad comparison!
