Take it one step further. We are the product of a super-race of beings. As we treat cattle and other species claiming ownership so they may look upon and treat us in kind. If we've outlived our usefulness and/or the experiment is concluded, it's time to say bye bye. Physicist Michio Kaku is fond of saying that ETs may simply want to "pave over" this part of the galaxy for some mega-project they have in mind, and if we're in the way that's too bad for us.
