Maybe they could use it for predicting weather on the West Coast? Nothing else seems to give them a reliable forecasting model.

Doesn't Batman have one of these?
This is just an amplification of an analytical process that even small children use when they decide whether to walk down a dark alley. Accurate data entry will prove to be a problem with its use. Crime reporting influences how the general public regards police effectiveness so it's always biased.
