For the massive amounts of money spent on Acela it is still slower than the steam engines that ran between those cities in the 1940s?

And I am not sure how a government subsidized train can be called profitable?

Remove the taxpayer subsidies that pay for track and station maintenance and lets see if it is really profitable.
