Nuclear Energy
Clean, reliable, cheap and safe. Not only is that statement a joke. But the sad thing about it. Is that the joke is on our children. They are the ones, that are going to suffer, for nuclear waste and contamination.

Clean up
I suspect they'll be using ion exchange resin to remove the contaminants from the water, and there would be further stabilization of the spent resin. Lets see, a massive tsunami event resulting the deaths of 10000+ people, and we end up with several contaminated industrial sites. I'll take the risk for the 4000+ megawatts being generated within 50 miles of where I live by operating nuclear plants.

Cleaning up Radioactive Isotopes from Water
They'll probably use a combination of things like zeolites which absorb and de-activate the radiation from the water. That's what TEPCO is currently doing now in the sea water around Fukushima: http://nuclearstreet.com/nuclear_power_industry_news/b/nuclear_power_news/archive/2011/04/25/containment-flooding-progresses_2c00_-groundwater-barrier-proposed-at-fukushima-daiichi042502.aspx

More info on radiation cleanup
They have a whole lot of cleanup to do, including purifying the water with zeolites among other things, as well as decontaminating the area in general. At the same time they have to keep their own bodies safe while being exposed. I hope they are taking the proper precautions. http://thehealingfrequency.com/zeolite
