RE: Navy steps closer to producing ultimate laser weapon
This might be useful against the new ballistic anti-ship missiles the Chinese are developing.

RE: Navy steps closer to producing ultimate laser weapon
We need this laser now; not the laser light canons that are being used against the Somali pirates. The pirates will learn very quickly the defense against these non-lethal lasers and then bring sever retribution against the ships using them.

RE: Navy steps closer to producing ultimate laser weapon
You did not interpret Olivia Koski comment correctly. The current record power is 14 kilowatts. If you had 70 of them you would have 70 x 14 Kilowatts = 980 kilowatts, which is close to 1 megawatt. (1000 kilowatts). The actual ratio between 1 megawatt and 14 kilowatts is 71.43
