Great points.
The good news is all of these points can be addressed in a manner that is not only sustainable, but improves the bottom line for the company by making it more efficient.

As jaded businessmen would say, the eco side of the equation is a nice side effect of the cost savings for the business.

I love #3 in many ways. If stockholders became more involved you would not have CEOs pulling in $20 million in bonuses during a year the company drowns in red ink.

Is this blog hopelssly ideological?
2. Regulatory imperatives: It is pretty clear to me that Congress won?t take a leadership role here, so I?ll be watching what some of the federal agency continue to mandate with respect to carbon emissions reporting via scrutiny by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and ?risks? associated with failing to use resources sustainably

Congress took action and decided to not pass legislation based on junk science that would have created another massive federal bureaucracy and taxed absolutely everything and anything in our lives.

The federal courts upheld this and the executive branch has ordered the EPA to proceed anyway. That is tyranny of a central state, not a representative constitutional republic.

But heck surely a global carbon trading hoax is worth sacrificing our rule of law, Constitution, and separation of powers to the alter of global warming.

RE: 8 filters for my 2011 corporate sustainability coverage
I think your topic list is spot-on. I work at Intel in the IT organization and we have an IT Sustainability team that is chartered at looking for ways to use IT to do exactly what you mention in your opening paragraph: "...how IT can play a role in advancing the cause.." We have build a framework to get us started and would love your thoughts on our method: Building a Long-term Strategy for IT Sustainabiltiy/http://download.intel.com/it/pdf/Building_a_longterm_sustainability_strategy.pdf
