RE: Solazyme founder Harrison Dillon: Why the U.S. Navy wants our green jet fuel
From the quick numbers I can find on the internets...the entire U.S. Govt. uses about 2% of the liquid fuel consumed in the U.S. Assuming 100% of that is used by the military, cutting it by 75%, equaling 1.5% of US consumption, seems foolhardy at best considering the role it plays in our national security. I am all for implementing efficiencies that produce effective change, but how about we think through proposed solutions rather than running with reactionary prejudices. The military is one of the few legitimate constitutional government functions supported by our tax dollars these days as it is.
