Why?
The only benefit is to the utility who now can determine your 'peak" and charge accordingly. There are no savings. You will pay for unnecessary monitoring, pay for the software to teach the utility your useage patterns, pay a premium for electricity. So... how is any of this good? It is merely a ploy in an attempt to create a new market for meters and other monitoring devices for GE and others by claiming current meters obsolete. What obsolete? It measures what I use and that is all it needs to do! This is clearly a propaganda-marketing plan with governmental assistantance to artificialy raise the cost of electricity. The goal! By rasing the cost it helps to make very costly and ineffieicent alternative energy, winds & solar, more competitive. It is all fake. Its all a special interest agenda! If its not, then a power grid, smart or dumb, is totally unnecessary as local and residential generation is all that is necessary!
