We often think of all of the benefits, but I seldom see the 'fall out' or 'what if'...I think the quote from Jurassic Park says it all..."Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."We can cure all of the diseases, prevent viruses from invading our bodies, but there are true truths (as we know it)...- The planet was here long before humans inhabited it and it will be here after we are gone.- The balance of life is death...trying to evade one way it will only result in another method.

While I don't agree with the rabid comments of sfaid (above) it makes sense that this kind of human engineering would appeal to the current Chinese government but it might be wise to explore the ethical implications of where all this new information will lead us. It seems that geneticists are the new saviors in medicine and biological design. But just like the US engineering corp of the 1930s that built the Louisiana levy system, which effectively block the formation of vital wetlands. Now we need to rethink all that engineering -- while China pushed ahead with their 3 Gorges Dam (1999-2005) despite the environmental controversy. We need to simulate effects in the natural world so the exploration of the sub-atomic worlds of DNA, RNA, and plasmas lead to results that we hopefully won't have to try to reverse a century or so later.

If my math is right that's only $187,500 per person for the 16,000 that have been done so far. Does educated translate to "more creative at wasting money"? Obama is educated also so people say even though we the public have not seen proof. If George Church is proof of education then Obama must have been educated for 1000 years considering how much money he has blown! Grow up and get a real job! Stop wasting the taxpayers money.
