RE: To fight sexual abuse, wrestler Mick Foley learns the computer
Interesting. All the volunteers I know in this specific troubling field with RAINN, etc. are female and local rape crisis etc. center indicated they only wanted female volunteers. Very Unexpectedly, my legal professional expertise and some other privileged and confidential communications etc. came to involve an awful lot of child and adult sexual abuse, much of which was incest or other persons in positions of power, resulting in my taking courses in child sexual abuse from experts. Way too many who have told me or other professionals, in group therapy, etc., still do not and will not report, much less report promptly as still required of adults. Having backed into this field as a direct result of privileged and confidential contacts with survivors of suicide attempts, I know the devastation all too well. After mustering the courage to tell what had happened to her starting before first grade, a young lady in group therapy for depression dropped her head, shifted down into a little Child voice, and said "I'll leave now. You won't want me here. I'm so dirty!" Already shocked, I was enraged. Nobody else saw her that way and she benefited from continuing.
Glad more survivors, including high-profile ones, are speaking out courageously, and that men like this who can get heard are coming to comprehend the problems.
