Why not?
It's certainly not far fetched to think of something close to a genuine holo-deck in the near future. After all, the smartphone already does more than Captain Kirk's tricorder ever did. It can diagnose disease, measure radiation, pinpoint your location, and it even talks back to you (Kirk's only beeped)!

The various Startrek devices all had "unknown" sensors to get the valuable information, these still mostly don't exist.
While modern cell phones appear to have vastly more computing power than anything even on ST NG, they don't have the sensors, gyroscopes, cameras, and microphones are not enough.
There is an X prize for a medical Tricorder, it will need to develop some useful sensors to work with a cell phone.
