Thank god someone finally realized this.
EC to cap food-based biofuel contribution to renewable energy transport targets.

"We must invest in biofuels that achieve real emission cuts and do not compete with food."

Biofuels mean more GMO crops
And less Organically grown food for people. The best way to go is with Hydrogen fuel cells. Go here and learn all about 'em: http://clean-air.org

Nonsense!
Cellulosic ethanol can be made from corn STALKS and wheat STRAW, off the same plant. Don't you remember that, with grain plants, 90% of the plant is NOT food? So make use of it! Turn the grain into food and the stalk into fuel, without so much as increasing your acreage. Honestly, haven't any of you guys ever worked on a farm?

Great in theory.
But as has been pointed out many times here this summer, the technology to make ethanol on a massive scale as you describe does not exist.

Several companies across the world have spent hundreds of millions trying to and all of them have failed.

And yes I have worked on a farm. So what?

That has no impact on the discussion of them using food, corn and cane sugar, for fuel. I would love to see cellulosic ethanol pan out, but so far it is a dud.

It has been such a failure that now the EPA is set to approve yet another food stock, grain sorghum, for use.
