Our focus on our representative government as democracy still elicits the hope of a more just and equitable society. The heart and mind of real democracy sits on the fence between capitalism and socialism. The fact that economic power drives everything, including political power and governments diminishes the democratic process at any scale that can truly change our course as a species. The crowd funding of initiatives like those above and the organizations that are filling the void of our current flavor of capitalism are a small but growing light that will keep us from losing the hope of a better life for all of us.
