If you were robbed by a red-headed white man with blue eyes, would you want the police to be searching for someone with that description OR for a black female of African ancestry?Obviously, you want them looking for the person that robbed you. That is the basis of PROFILING! What the TSA is doing is NOT profiling as they don't want to "offend" anybody. It doesn't matter to them that their actions do NOTHING to make flying safer, NOR does it matter to them (or the people that dreamed up this malarky) that these searches violate the meaning and intent of the 4th Amendment of the Constitution. To wit:The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized. It doesn't matter whether it is the Xray machines or those bloody "pat-downs" (any place other than the airport and those would get you arrested!), BOTH invade your privacy for no VALID REASON.

"TSA agents need to be paid better to get people who are meticulous in doing their work while respecting our rights to privacy.Perhaps, but will more money automatically result in more alert, meticulous employees? I'd argue that it wouldn't.The problem is that "airport security" is a long, boring, tedious job. People who you might otherwise classify as "intelligent" would probably not do any better than it; perhaps worse, simply because it is so tedious and boring that they'd soon tune out.Years ago I was discussing this with someone making this same point, and I had to ask "How much would the TSA have to pay in order for you to quit your current job and do that instead"? There was no answer, because the individual involved already made far more than the TSA was likely ever to pay, and the unpleasantness of the job itself made many careers, even many paying much less far more desirable. The problem with TSA work is that it combines the tediousness of an old-style assembly line job with the need for alertness and quick thinking. That's a very tough combination to fulfill. I'm not sure how to achieve that.

...and yet this is still the state of airport security. We're literally no safer than we were 11 years ago except for the fact that airline passengers now completely understand that anyone who attempts to hijack their aircraft will likely kill everyone aboard, and their only option for survival is to disable and/or kill the criminals before they do so. Other than reinforcing cockpit doors, we didn't need to spend a decade, billions of dollars and abuse the civil rights of hundreds-of-millions of honest citizens to achieve that end.I can only come to one of two conclusions: The government is incapable of solving any problem....or...The entire point of the TSA isn't airport security at all, but to beat down the citizens of this country so that they'll eventually accept and take for granted literally any level of personal invasion, no matter how absurd or pointless.I can't wait until these people are running all of health care.

Security Theater is the best description of TSA, the appearance of security instead of actual security. A couple dozen TSA employees were fired last week for not catching weapons in luggage. Then there are the outrageous actions of a few TSA agents who make the search process as demeaning as possible, usually on those who are the most vulnerable. There are also the incidents where a TSA agent steals electronic devices before the passenger can reclaim them.TSA agents need to be paid better to get people who are meticulous in doing their work while respecting our rights to privacy. TSA also needs to be held accountable for the abusive actions of a few of the agents. As for the article, the replacement of x-ray machines, this may be an improvement. The problem with the equipment is that there are unanswered questions like "What is the x-ray dosage?" to "Are these people able to capture images from the x-ray equipment?"

TSA is nothing but job creation. This whole bureaucracy has so bloated with the most uneducated, inefficient people that it wastes millions if not billions of tax dollars. If someone is determined, he will get through this so called safe zones. There have been hundreds of incidents(that was reported) and several hundred unreported each year of people getting through with weapons and are never found as they have already boarded the plane. Israel does this type of screening most efficiently without one being groped and molested. Government can do away with 90% of this nonsense by giving pre -screened people a "pass" that they can use to go straight into the airport. This would save $$$$ and most valuable time.
