Dark Energy?
Is this the same thing as dark matter?

No, it's not the same.
Actually, dark matter supposedly makes up nearly a quarter of the Universe versus dark energy making up nearly three quarters. Do the math and you come to the conclusion that normal matter makes up only a few percent of the composition of the Universe!

Dark energy is really just a "place holder" until we can unify our field theories. It's a way to explain the accelerating expansion of the Universe, but it really demonstrates how little we know about the physics of the Universe.

Dark stuff
Dark energy is a term used to describe an unknown reason for why the universe is growing faster year by year (well, billion year by billion year). Ordinary (aka Newtonian) physics suggests the universe should be growing slower year by year until it starts shrinking. Galaxies are attracted to each other by gravity.

Galaxies behave as if they're much heavier than the stars, planets, black holes, etc. that can be seen. The most popular theories are that galaxies contain lots of invisible (dark) matter that makes them heavier.

Storage requirements
At 24bpp each image would be over 13GB. I'd love to see their SAN.
