Reuse, recycle, conserve......
Just about everything can be re-purposed when it's intended use is over. Even human excrement can provide biogas and feedstock for the ethanol industry. It's a shame that we still routinely destroy or throw out so much perfectly good stuff when it's life could be extended or it could be used as feedstock or components elsewhere instead. A lack of imagination and continued dominance of a profits dominated economy are to blame, so we need to do more to assign economic value to our wastes. School buildings build 30 years ago are being torn down as soon as the construction bonds are paid off. The grammar school I attended in the 1950s by contrast, old when I first arrived there, is still going strong with the help of modernized electrical and heating systems. When did we forget the worth of frugality?

We forgot when other people's money became cheap and accessible...
...and we started guaranteeing funding for everything.

I agree. It's astounding what we throw away. But astounding as it may sound, we also make it impossible or illegal much of the time to recycle. That will change as we as a nation become poor again.

They're talking about glass tubes here
Glass is a recyclable product, and there's billions of tons of sand still around to make more if we need to. I don't see this a problem.
