No current weapons have polymermer barrels! Is the blogger's lack of knowledge regarding materials, technology and the history of $10 zip guns more apparent? Advanced non-mettalic materials could be used for shell casings and bullets, but these materials are simply not available to the general public and are very, very expensive.

Not knowing the motivation beyond uninformed "gee wow", I'm wondering when we get the follow-on "Build a Phaser at Home" blog .... perhaps after research on old Popular Mechanics issues?
