Scotland plans world's largest offshore wind farm

Right now Scotland has wind farms that have to shut down when they reach peak power production because the grid cannot handle the load. And the taxpayers are paying them for the power they never produced.

Why build more production capacity when they cannot handle what they have now?

Because it is another way for the government to make the rich who fund their campaigns richer on the backs of the poor consumers.

For this sort of money, they would be better building the proposed Solway Firth tidal power barrage, as the tide is guaranteed, the wind, even in Scotland, is not.

The Solway Firth also has the benefit of low shipping usage so it will not obstruct there, as most of it is horrible mud flats.

It is also very close to the UK National Grid back-bone, as the former Magnox Nuclear Powerstation @ Chapelcross (Near Lockerbie), was never replaced with anything and the grid connection could easily be resurrected.

It would be nice to see this succeed or failure funded by someone else's money for a change.

In the last 200 years Coal, Oil and Nuclear has given energy to many worldwide and great power and wealth to only a few. At the cost of many lives in coal Mines, Oil Spills, Radiation, Cancer and Polluting the Air and Water on all of the Earth.

Unfortunately for the wicked there is not an unlimited amount of oil on earth. Just the same as the Forest Trees that clean the air and make Oxygen we breath and all living on earth need to Live. As some in denial are not able to recognize or ever see or live with blinders on.

Doctors and Drug ceo's have been making millions prescribing drugs to many that live near or by High polluted areas that hurt breathing our lungs and harm our children and all. That we all pay for. When all they need is Clean Air and Water, and Clean Cities.

Now common sense would be for all to look for a clean fuel Wind, Hydro, Geothermal and Solar. Renewable Energy is eliminating the need for Dirty Energy Worldwide at a record pace. With Solar Energy Clearly the front runner.

To the fear of some of the richest people on Earth. They to surprisingly are doing
something extraordinary investing in Solar Energy. After years of many of them trying to under mine it.

Fuel that makes energy to ship goods, or make electric for homes and manufacturing. Can transform whole nations into prosperity and wealth or poverty and economic hardships for most all. Just as taxes on taxpayers has done. For over two thousand years. Making slaves of many to the wicked and unjust few. History Lesson Roman Empire, Persian Empire now OIL Empire oh sorry OPEC.

The Freedom to get your own Power from the Wind and Sun, Solar Energy has been there for years. Are Libraries and Schools should have been the first to have gone Solar and Renewable Energy. And why are they not? Churches are all over the Planet. They are going to Solar Energy.

Very soon Hybrid Vehicles and (EV's) Electric Vehicles will out number the ones that need oil and gas to go. With the ability to recharge them at home and work from the sun.

Tesla Motors with its new Model S electric sedan, will be one of many the World will see soon. Honda, Nissan, Audi,VW, BMW and Volvo are just some of the Car Companies putting into production Electric Vehicles a EV, and many more are and many are building Electric / Hybrid Vehicles. The DeLorean Motor Company will be putting into production by 2013 a DMC-EV Electric DeLorean, that will have a body and power plant that will last you a life time. Just think you can recharge them at home and work free from the sun Solar Energy.

Now to own a car that will never rust way and runs on the power from the sun that's the one for me. Very soon most all on earth will be able to get energy by recharging from the sun and wind.

Imagine if the photo at the head of this article was of ANWR, the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge (it looks very similar), and the headline read "Chinese Dam Builder to Install 339 Giant Oil Derricks in ANWR". We would all be extremely disturbed by such a plan.

But since the goal is 339 giant bird killing, mammal reverberating windmills it's considered "smart" instead of destructive.

The so-called "green", land-gobbling industrial solar and wind projects are intruding on our wildlands at an increasing pace. They are a blight on the landscape and should be opposed by all true lover's of the earth. There are better ways to make energy.

...as the section of ANWR where the drilling would take place looks nothing like that. There is nothing but flat tundra there. The anti-drilling crowd likes posting pictures of Denali and like places, which is actually a bit of lie, since such places do exist at ANWR, but are hundreds of miles away from the would-be drilling.

(You can easily locate actual photos on Google Earth if you are so inclined but there really isn't much there to see)

I'm so naive. There was an article in the NYTimes recently about awful bit of news. Here in California, 200 to 300 foot towers (poles?) are set up to monitor wind patterns before a wind farm will be built. We had two agricultural pilots crash to their deaths because the poles are impossible to see. So the state wanted a law requiring attention grabbing paint stripes (I can't believe they didn't call for lights) and the wind power corporations sent lobbyists to fight the bill because of the EXPENSE! I got an old familiar feeling and a pit in my stomach. Even wind power plays that capitalist game of profits above people.
Maybe it's different over water? Probably the same corporations?

I am fairly certain that FAA regulations already call for lights on those towers.

Assuming the cost of producing this energy is less than with oil, this could be a world-wide solution to our energy needs, and eventually it could put the oil companies out of business. Just think of the pollution that would be eliminated. If they can develop the "floating" windmill farms, they could be put out in the ocean where people couldn't see them & the wind is stronger too.
