"use the stalks for fuel." is not what is being done now. I am 100% onboard with using waste to make bio fuel as you suggest. If it comes down to throwing it in a land fill or burning it in a field or making fuel out of it, have at. Make all the fuel you can.
When the UN finally is onboard, you know the use of any food product for fuel production is moronic. Sadly, probably 99.999999% of all bio fuels produced are currently being made from food products. Have you seen the price of sugar or corn products lately?
There is a good reason why global bio fuel production was so low for decades until the food for fuel mandates started. People were only using waste to make fuel.
