Food - Fuel - Energy
Using alcohol in gasoline for fuel is stupid. It requires more energy to produce the alcohol than we get back by burning it. My cars have over the years gotten reduced mileage almost directly lowered by the amount of alcohol in it, ie 10% alcohol equals 10% reduction in mileage. Gasahol is a political fuel! It was enacted by congress uo use up our incredibly large corn stockpiles so that the government could continue to purchase the farmers surplus grain. This kept the farmers (big commercial farming corps) happy and voting and contributing. What's wrong with that? We are now looking at what could happen in a severe drought when the afore mentioned grain producers don't produce any grain. We have international contracts for the delivery of grain overseas which must be fulfilled and an unatural useage for fule which combined will probably, almost certainly cost us the American public in elevated food prices. I don't advocate legislating against gasahol I just want the special tax incentives removed and the subsidized purchase of grain removed and let the billion dollar industry sink or swim by its on merits.
