This is a good place to start understanding the psychology of a small group in a hostile environment with limited access to normal comforts. This is not a waste of money even if humanity never gets further than the moon. Scientific research will show what is possible and what resources can be obtained from space exploration; but it will take a business venture to spend the money to get those resources. It would be easier to go to the asteroid belt for those resources, but the problem of surviving the journey, gathering and then returning those resources is still formidable. It is almost the same problem we had 600 years ago before the discovery of three new continents; the long journey by sail was arduous and expensive.

The majority of the 'Baby Boomer' generation got BRAINWASHED in the early '60's by propaganda DISNEY movies into believing that going into outer space was a good idea. All that the rocketry program has done, from BEGINNING TO END, is to create VAST amounts of pollution and human suffering in its wake. A WALL OF WATER 3ft thick minimum would be needed just to shield the occupants from deadly COSMIC RAYS. For these astronauts, it is a ONE-WAY TRIP death sentence...and for what end? Most EVERYTHING presently being done with orbital satellites could be accomplished more efficiently with WEATHER BALLOONS at a mere 25 miles altitude. The entire program WORLDWIDE needs to be scrapped before serious consequences happen in an accident with the up-and-coming 'routine' launch of nuclear rockets.(cont.) http://darinselby.1hwy.com/4spaceprogramerrors.html
