Articles on innovation focus on technology where the world has seen huge progress since Galileo. The world has yet to discover one of the greatest innovations of the 20th century, the application of control theory to a new conception of how living organisms function. When you look closely, it turns out that the difference between inanimate physical objects and living organisms is control, and William T. Powers has spent 60 years working out how that works. It is now called Perceptual Control Theory. Taught at the U of Manchester (www.pctweb.org), it has yet to be understood by the vast majority of psychologists, and the public. Technically trained managers understand it readily once they have a close look. Once understood and accepted, it will make a huge difference to mankind. People will realize that the scientific method has been misapplied in psychology because of the failure to understand that what are studied are control systems, not inanimate objects.
