One such smart device from Red Dwarf that people might make in the future 'just because' is Talkie Toaster (Patent Pending). It's smarter than Einstein, can answer all questions about the mysteries of the multiverse, yet it lives to feed you toasted bread products, irrespective of whether you actually want them or not. It uses every trick in the book to stuff you with toasted bread products, inducing insanity in the user in the process.Until it's a case of sledgehammering it to death to save your sanity.

My vision is a reading machine. I just give my full day newspaper to the reader machine and it gives me back a sumary in one paragraph. I can not image the computational power (and broadband) for this. But the task is not trivial. Every information in the newspaper is further researched by the reader machine so the resume has a bigger context than the newspaper. From the resume I can be interested in some part and ask the reader another level of detail ( another sumary ) about my interest. An so on up to the point I am satisfied.
