to David KellyLong plane rides have two problems. First is the danger of a fatal embolus The second is the cluttering of the aisles as almost 300 people try to exercise and prevent emboli. The solution to both is to speed the venous lower leg flow and this requires two items. First is snug enclosure of the calf and second is frequent-say every 10'-heel-toe exercises, further speeding the flow. Can you come up with an inviting "puttee" that would evenly pressure the calf without a tight stocking and be available by the airline on the plane. I created the snug socks in 1949.. I am 96 and home phone is 707 255 8702 if Dr. Kelley wishes to discuss this project ..Richards LyonMD Engineer-docll

I have read both of your articles about d school, finding them very interesting indeed; however back in the late 80's at an alternative high school, where I was employed as a mathematics/computer teacher, I experienced results on attempts to change the designs of our centers' teaching methods, etc. ... I found these changes very interesting and thought they should (could) work just fine? You see though, I was just beginning my 20 year career at that district. The other members of our faculty had much more time in, and I found their overwhelming resistance to change very unrelenting? Our new principal lasted only two years at our center, leaving us after he received a four year grant to start his own alternative school, still within our district. My conclusion (of course) was to assume people are very resistant to change of any kind? He finally resigned from the district to move on to another area consisting of younger teachers less resistant to trying something with a different (better) design ... The jury is still out on the results of that one? Sooooo ... I wish David K. good luck with his d school, but I would surmise the astablished business school's tenured-faculty is already installing sandbags along the shores of proven business methods; however I can vaguely hear the sabers rattling now over at the business school faculty lounge? Good Luck ... TEd ...
