Good luck to them, I really mean that but solar energy still has quite a way to come to reduce setup costs and increase lifespan of the hardware before it can truly replace nuclear power as an energy solution.

Solar versus Nuclear
It may be a costly exercise to replace all incandescent & fluorescent lights with LED's
in Japan.
However it would be the fastest solution to implement and consequently eliminate
the need for nuclear power stations.
Replacing light bulbs is about the least time consuming and lowest installation cost of any other alternative and no side effects either.
Or is this idea the proverbial elephant in the room?
