A lot of different issues here
I'm a little tired of the arguments about last-mile connections. Not because they're not valid, but because I believe the U.S. Ignite initiative is attacking the problem from an entirely different direction. Sure we need better last-mile connections, but one way to inspire the industry to change is to show everyone what can be done in an environment with ultra-high-speed connections. Plus, the government can't change the last-mile situation in one fell swoop. There are too many complicating factors. But by linking together isolated communities of high-speed networks, it can start to expand these areas of connectivity from the inside out. This is a good thing!
One thing I do agree with critics on- we need to get rid of legal barriers to municipal broadband. Muni broadband isn't right for every community, but the option should be there.
