Florida?
The fact that Florida - one of the sunniest states in the country, is minor league in solar development, says far more about the dark conservative mental demographics of the state than about its bright solar development potential. That's what a generation of conservative leadership does for a state - nothing, well that and a collapsed housing market.

Florida???
I also suspect that the relative old population of Florida has something to do with its lack of solar development. Why invest thirty grand in a project that will pay off in 20 years when you will be gone long before then.

Try facts, not politics.
As stated by jmofil, the age of many Floridians along with limited retirement income puts solar out of many peoples reach.

The weather is also a factor. Most of the panhandle gets over 60 inches of rain per year. Much of it comes with hail large enough to damage solar panels. So you can write off 20 percent of the state there.

The only intelligent part of your statement was the housing market. The Florida housing market was grossly over priced driven by a flood of sub-prime borrowers bidding on homes with money they could never repay.

And do not get me started on the wonderful contributions the democrats made to creating the housing bubble.

All of that drove up the overall cost of living with higher mortgages and rents. Yet another factor toward making people unable to afford solar.

SolarThink makes another great point. Powerful utility lobbys fighting reasonable net metering rates have put a major damper on solar in many residential installations, including in DARK AND LIBERAL California.

- dark conservative mental demographics?

Grow up.

Florida
In Florida, you have very strong electric utilities and as a result lots of roadblocks to the use of PPAs. All states that have enabled PPAs will see ongoing growth.
