There's lots of speculation about the J-20 because there's so few facts. All that's really confirmed is that it's much bigger than the F-22. Neither complacency nor panic is called for.
Holographic HUDs aren't an especially sensitive tech. They may be appearing in ordinary passenger cars in the near future.
The F-35, somewhat farther along in the development process than the J-20, dispenses with a "dash mounted" HUD in favor of a "visor display" HMD (Helmet Mounted Display)
