Nonetheless, the scientific method is how progress is made. Theories are postulated, tests are devised to confirm or disprove the theory, results are published so others can confirm those results. Sometimes other tests appear to confirm the results so the theory gains credence. Later, someone may discover a flaw in the methods used and the theory is modified or discarded.
