Many years ago, Sports Illustrated had an article about helmets made with a polyurethane shock absorbing cover on the outside of the helmet - about 1/4 inch I think. Coaches rejected the idea because the helmets did not make enough noise when they hit other helmets.

Does anyone really think that the community that makes money from football cares about athletes' health?
