The drug lords, corporations, media, etc. are financing (nicer term than bribing, right?) our elected 'representatives' to keep the population distracted and uninformed about what's really happening.
Honestly, they could probably tell the truth at this point and it wouldn't make much difference, most of us have become accustomed to not believing what we hear on the news anyway.
