"Everyone would agree..." I think you define "everyone" rather loosly.

"No doubt the idea of using computers to virtually resurrect a dead celebrity strikes many people as frivolous or crass, if not ghoulish."

Just think, this could put hundreds of Elvis Imitators out of business. Singers could retire and go on performaing for ages. We could stil have an Original Monkees, or Original Beatles concert tour and make millions.
