http://www.smartplanet.com/forum/discussions/1-10191-70697

Phone chargers aren't the major problems in our house we always unlug them when the phone is charged, I don't understand why they would be left plugges in,, in the first place. It is things like the computer speaker, the printer converter, the modem , and wireless router, the TV converter box (D to A) power trnasformers...Sure some TV's may consume "standby power", but I am not uplugging the TV and go through the setup each time! Same goes for the TV converter boxes. It also is too inconvenient to get on the floor and turn on/off the speaker power, etc. each time you need to. The power strips are on the floor behind the desk. Something that turns the power on when you turn on the unit's power switch is what's needed. Same goes for the phone charger. I guess we need to install the whole house surge suppression devices and then what the computer's peripherals are plugged into doesn't matter and then the power strip can be mounted somewhere more convenient than the floor. Maybe a power strip mounted on the wall, like you would find in a hardware store for a workbench!

First off, during GW's office time, he put in effect a ruling for device chargers such as phones to have a micro switch to shut things off, or as we were told. Many cell phone chargers are to have this system in place. Once fully charged, switches off until device calls for charge, this prevents it from doing a continuous charge, burning out the device or catching fire.
