Both Stanford and MIT have systems for recharging while driving. To me, this makes more sense than huge electric batteries taking hours to recharge. Smartplanet Feb 3, 2012 article:

Each driver would have an RFID driver's license inserted for use by law enforcement, traffic management, automatic hand's free driving and more.
