For those of you who missed out on the chance to buy a Roadster, you don’t have to fret anymore. Tesla is planning to bring back the now retired car in 2014 - albeit in a different form.
Tesla chief Elon Musk recently Autocar magazine that the company’s flagship model will no longer be based on the Lotus Elise, but on a “third-generation, more mass-market platform for cars like a 3-Series and the new Roadster.”
The car is most likely going to be based on a shortened-wheelbase version of the Model S chassis, and Musk added that, “this platform will spawn a range of cars in the next four to five years.”
Although Tesla hasn’t had a profit yet, Musk said in a Bloomberg Television interview today that the company has sold out of next year’s production of its new Model S sedan and should earn a profit in 2013.
